Study Day on Aquinas

Please join us for our Summer Book Study on Saturday, July 27 entitled Augustine and Aquinas: Friends Across the Ages (Part 2: Aquinas).

In addition to our panel discussion on Josef Pieper’s The Silence of St. Thomas, there will be a presentation and discussion on the selected texts taken from the Compendium of Theology, the Summa, and the Disputed Questions on the Truth, and focus on the relations in the Trinity, creation, and the soul.

The schedule for the day will be as follows:

Our next monthly meeting will be held on Friday, July 12th from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. We will be meeting the Kateri Room located at St. Michael’s Church, 240 Hemlock Street, Waterloo, Ontario. Use the east side parking lot and enter by the rear door. Walk up the stairs. For our Study Day we’ll be discussing Augustine’s signature work On the Trinity, Books 8–15. Copies of this book are available at the Universityof Waterloo Bookstore. On the Trinity is also available here.

Note that Book XV, Chapter 3 is a recapitulation of the previous books

Our conversation will be guided by four presenters.

We’ll also discuss an article by Pope Benedict on Augustine that appeared in an issue of Communio. That article is available here.

Thomas Toast event

To honour St. Thomas, join us for our annual Thomas Toast event on Friday, February 1st at 7:00pm at the Newman Centre Guelph, 325 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ontario. We are planning to begin with Vespers in the Oratory. Then Fr. Mark Morley will give a talk entitled “St. Thomas Aquinas and the Quandary of Technical Progress.” Discussion and refreshments to follow. Parking off of Dean Avenue. Doors open at 6:00pm. All are welcome. Bring a friend for an enjoyable evening of faith and fellowship.
