This event in honour of St. Thomas Aquinas took place at Blessed Sacrament Church, Kitchener, Ontario on January 24, 2014. The program sung by the Cantualis Chant Choir consisted of (1) Pange lingua, (2) Sacris solemniis, (3) Verbum supernum prodiens and (4) Lauda Sion Sequence and (5) Adoro te devote. The hymns were introduced by David Hall, choir director. Commentary from Aquinas At Prayer by Paul Murray OP was read by Rev. Mark Morley. The English translation of Adoro te devote by Gerard Manley Hopkins SJ was read by Seán O’Seasnain. Continue reading

In honour of the upcoming Memorial of St. Thomas Aquinas, and to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Communio Circle of the Diocese of Hamilton and the Cantualis Chant Choir present an evening of hymns composedby St. Thomas for the Feast of Corpus Christi along with commentaries taken from Aquinas At Prayer by Paul Murray, OP, on Friday, January 24th at 7:00pm in Blessed Sacrament Church, 305 Laurentian Drive, Kitchener, Ontario. Christianity and Secularism

A Conversation for the Year of Faith among Christians, Atheists, Non-Believers and Free Thinkers in the Diocese of Hamilton

When Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor spoke at a conference on religion and the public sphere he described secularity in terms of the three goals of the French Revolution: liberty, equality and fraternity. Although he acknowledged that pursuing the goals of liberty and equality requires compromise, he argued that negotiating public policy requires fraternity among citizens. As Canadians pursued the goals of liberty and equality, Canada became more pluralistic and secular. It is hoped that this event will promote the goal of fraternity among Canadians with different notions of secularity, namely those of us who hold religious beliefs, such as Christians, and those of us who don’t hold them, such as atheists and free thinkers.
