THE HYPERCOLONIAL CONDITION, Or, HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT EVERYTHING

Our next monthly meeting will be held on Friday, September 9th from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. We will be discussing the opinion piece “THE HYPERCOLONIAL CONDITION, Or, HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT EVERYTHING” by our very own, Deacon Charles Fernandes.

Here is an excerpt from the paper:
What underlies these fundamental disagreements, disagreements which are both polarizing and seemingly unresolvable? I argue that there is a consensus, which is largely unnoticed and unacknowledged, underlying such differences between globalists and anti-globalists, climate activists and climate skeptics, gender traditionalists and those promoting gender fluidity. What do people who are populists and radicals, liberals and conservatives, Catholics and atheists, religious and secular have in common? My answer is rather obvious: we all inhabit the same set of institutions, we are formed to pursue the same set of aspirations, and our thinking is shaped accordingly. It is this consensus which I dub the hypercolonial condition.

We will meet in the Kateri Room located at St. Michael’s Church, 240 Hemlock Street, Waterloo, Ontario. Use the east side parking lot and enter by the rear doors. Walk up the stairs. The Kateri Room is on your right before enter the church proper.

There will also be an online option.

Please note, however, now that a consistent majority of participants are meeting in person, those joining online will be able to hear the discussion, but you won’t be able to see the participants in the room. You will only be able see the moderator, whom you can call upon by raising a hand (actual or virtual) if you would like to take a turn at speaking. If we get this right, the people in the room will be able to see you when you are speaking. This format will enable those meeting in person to face each other rather than face the screen. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
